Start-ups

In the course of conducting research, investigators may develop intellectual property that has potential for commercialization. The process to commercialization can take many different forms, and one way is for the inventors of the intellectual property to form a company. These companies are often referred to as "faculty start-ups" or "start-up."

The Vice President for Research and Economic Development has staff that can assist with this process. However, it is important to understand and emphasize that creating a company can also create new financial conflicts of interest with respect to research conducted at the University.
