The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services oversees the Public Health Service and its regulations on Responsibility of Applicants for Promoting Objectivity in Research for Which Public Health Service Funding Is Sought and Responsible Prospective Contractors. The current final rule, or administrative law, went into effect in August 2012. Research funding agencies covered by this regulation include but are not limited to:
- Administration for Children and Families (ACF)
- Administration for Community Living
- Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
- Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR)
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
- Indian Health Service (IHS)
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
Other federal agencies funding research also may have conflict of interest in research standards:
